Meet our team
Lloyd W. Leonard, B.Sc.(Hons), CIM, FCSI
Vice President & Portfolio Manager
Lloyd began his career as a field Geologist in the Canadian mineral exploration industry, so he understands risk and structures his clients’ portfolios to mitigate it. Lloyd gets to know our clients and their needs and objectives before proposing personalized strategies. He identifies opportunities not merely because they are popular but because the underlying fundamentals make sense.
In 1978, Lloyd graduated from Queen’s University at Kingston, Ontario with a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Geology and began his career in the investment industry in 1983, starting with Andras Hatch and Hetherington Ltd. After 18 years, he moved to Brawley Cathers in 2001, which, through a series of mergers and acquisitions, is now part of Richardson GMP. He manages wealth on a discretionary basis as a Portfolio Manager and has the freedom to advise clients objectively without bias to any product or platform. In 2014, Lloyd teamed up with his colleague Joel Kruzich to form Kruzich Leonard Wealth Management, offering long-term advisory services with a full-service approach.
A great believer in contributing to his community, Lloyd has served on the Board of Directors of Evangel Hall Mission and has also been President of the Oriole Provincial PC Riding Association, President of his local ratepayers’ group and head of his daughters’ junior high school parent council. A real history buff, Lloyd unwinds by collecting postcards, serving on the executive of the Toronto Postcard Club, and being an active participant in the Ontario Northland Railway Historical and Technical Society.
Senior Vice President & Portfolio Manager
Joel fell in love with the investment industry while working for a summer with his father, who was an advisor for a bank-owned firm. After earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance at Bishop’s University in 1994, he began his career at TD Evergreen, where he witnesssed a severe market crash that shaped his conservative approach to investing. He worked for seven years and then moved to Hampton Securities for another seven years, developing a loyal clientele of investors and a specialty in helping people to generate a steady income in retirement.
In 2011, his fifteenth year in the investment industry, Joel made the move to Macquarie Private Wealth, which was acquired by Richardson GMP in 2013. After working closely with his friend and mentor, Lloyd Leonard, for some time, Joel teamed up with Lloyd in 2014 to create Kruzich Leonard Wealth Management.
Joel greatly enjoys the rewards of being involved in his community and embraces the refreshing values of the not-for-profit sector. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Life Saving Society, which works to save lives by promoting swimming safety, as their Business Knowledge Advisor. Joel is also Head Coach of his son’s Leaside Flames Minor Novice hockey team and active on various committees at his kids’ school, Maurice Cody. He enjoys spending time with his wife, son and daughter, especially being outdoors at his family cottage in the Kawarthas.
