Mark Starratt, CFP, CIM, FCSI, AIFPTM, ICD.D, B.Comm.

As well as being a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Investment Manager, Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and Accredited Investment FiduciaryTM, Mark has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta in 1993 and obtained his ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2011. The ICD.D program gave Mark important insights into corporate governance, which is invaluable to clients who own small businesses, especially at key transitional times.
As well as leading the team with his brother Scott and performing portfolio management duties, Mark’s responsibilities within the team include community outreach and building relationships with our valued clients. As Rotary’s youngest-ever District Governor (2008/09), he led and motivated Rotarians throughout Southern Alberta and Western Saskatchewan, advised the organization on philanthropic gifts, motivation and education, and travelled North America to represent the International President on several occasions. Passionate about advancing the stewardship of post-secondary education, Mark serves on the University of Calgary’s Board of Governors. Prior to this post, he was a Senator on the Senate Executive connecting the University to the community for six years. In 2009/10, Mark was privileged to serve as the Chair of the University's Joint Committee to select its 12th Chancellor. He currently serves on the University’s Executive and Budget Committees and as Vice-Chair of their Investment Committee, which oversees $1.7 billion in assets.
Mark was also the Founder and Chair for the Board of Trustees of the Banff Sports Hall of Fame for almost seven years, recognizing individuals who represent sports and mountain leisure excellence in the categories of Athlete, Builder, Pioneer, and Achievement.
Mark and his wife Jennifer’s young son Alex suffers from spinomuscular atrophy, a genetic neuromuscular disease that is caused by a missing protein in the muscles. In Alex’s honour, they created The Starratt Family Foundation to raise funds and awareness for neuromuscular education and research, and Mark serves as its Trustee.

Scott Starratt is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Investment Manager, Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute and Accredited Investment FiduciaryTM. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta in 1993 majoring in Finance, Game Theory and Chemistry and draws on more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry.
Scott’s role is to lead the team with his brother Mark and perform astute due diligence, manage portfolios and select top-tier alternative and hedged investments for our clients’ downside protection. Scott gets to know company management teams on an up-close-and-personal basis to be able to assess funds based on more than figures on a balance sheet: he also considers each managers’ ethics, track records and integrity under pressure. In addition, Scott works closely with Richardson GMP’s oversight team and the firm’s top legal and accounting partners to ensure that proper documentation, compliance and administrative procedures are always in place.
Jim Hartsook, CFP, FICB
Joining Starratt Wealth Management in 2005 after 25 years with CIBC, where he earned the prestigious Chairman's Award and numerous Achiever Awards, Jim has risen to the challenge of advising affluent families and business owners and focuses entirely on the financial well-being of his clients. Jim is passionate about helping his clients to achieve their personal financial goals. He holds the Certified Financial Planner and Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers designations.
Shelley was born in Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in Holdfast, SK. Shelley joined Starratt Wealth Management in September 2009 from TD Waterhouse PIA, where she was employed for seven and a half years. She has been in the investment industry for more than 20 years, working in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and has completed the Canadian Securities Course and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course. Drawing upon her many years of experience and industry knowledge, Shelley enters and accepts trade orders and brings many other tremendous benefits to our clients.
Associate Investment Advisor
Leona Silva joined Richardson GMP in January 2006 and has been in the financial services industry for over 16 years. Prior to Richardson GMP, she worked as an Investment Advisor Assistant at CIBC Wood Gundy. Leona has a very detailed and friendly approach with our clients and is always eager to go the extra mile to meet client satisfaction. Leona is currently working on her last course for her Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®) Designation. Leona is very effective in keeping up a balanced lifestyle revolving around work, friends, family and outside activities. .
Alicia is the newest member to our team but has been in the industry since 2012. She graduated from Calgary’s Mount Royal University with an Education Assistant Diploma with a minor in Psychology. Eager to learn and constantly keep up with new changes within our industry, Alicia manages the administrative side of our team. Keeping in close contact with our clients, updating personal portfolios and assisting our team with a friendly and detail-conscious approach.
Outside of work, Alicia is a retired rugby player on the Calgary Rams rugby team and has now taken over the social position on the executive committee. She enjoys unwinding in the mountains through hiking, biking, camping, keeping active, as well as keeping up a constant count on traveling to new countries in the world.
