Mike George, B. COMM (HONS), M. ACC, CA, CFP
Director, Tax & Estate Planning

Working closely with Investment Advisors, their clients, external professionals and other members of the Tax & Estate Planning professionals, Mike is responsible for the effective delivery of the wide range of wealth planning services at Richardson GMP. Mike is a Chartered Accountant and Certified Financial Planner and specializes in personal, corporate and trust tax planning.

Mike has been working with High Net Worth clients in the financial services industry for many years. Before joining our firm in 2004, Mike worked at Assante. He has extensive experience in the tax field and helps identify solutions to reduce taxes, enhance and preserve wealth, and transfer assets tax-efficiently to the next generation. Mike has played an instrumental role in delivering client-centered solutions including the successful transition of family businesses, the development of long-term employee compensation programs (including stock option and employee pension plans) and the reduction of tax on the sale of businesses by utilizing trusts to multiply the enhanced capital gains exemption among family members.

Mike is frequently interviewed on wealth planning concepts and tax-related matters. As well, he lectures on corporate taxation and has authored various industry publications and articles.

A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Mike received his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in 1991 and Masters of Accountancy in 1992. Mike continued on to achieve his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1995 and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation in 2004. He has also completed his CICA In-Depth Tax Course and is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation.


Robert Mendenhall, J.D., LL.M.
Vice President, Tax & Estate Planning

As part of the Tax & Estate Planning Team, Robert works closely with clients and their investment advisor to identify solutions that address clients' overall wealth planning needs. Once clients have a clear understanding of their planning needs, he focuses on helping clients and their professional advisors implement the selected solutions.

Robert is a lawyer with several years of experience. Before coming to Richardson GMP, Robert worked at other financial institutions advising clients on trust, estate, and tax planning. Prior to that, he was a partner in a law firm. Robert obtained his Juris Doctor from the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan. Later, he obtained a Masters of Law degree from J. Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University.

Robert has advanced his interests in wealth and estate planning by completing significant course work in tax and wealth preservation. Robert is a trained mediator and has actively mediated for the courts for many years. He has also completed training as a family business advisor and has facilitated succession planning sessions with families.

Robert belongs to the following professional associations: Law Societies of Alberta and Saskatchewan, Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Canadian Tax Foundation and the Canadian Bar Association.
