James D. Rogers, CPA, CA, Portfolio Manager
Very early in life, I was lucky enough to come to the realization that building net worth and control over my finances was essential to live the life I wanted for myself. From that point forward, I made the study of money, wealth, and investing both a hobby and career aspiration. Starting with the study of dozens and dozens of investment books in the 1980s and 90s, I personally developed trend-tracking software models to successfully trade mutual funds. To further expand my wealth knowledge, I earned the Chartered Accountant designation with Deloitte in 1993 – considered by most to be the most trustworthy financial designation in Canada.
In 1997, I started my investment career with ScotiaMcLeod, and in 2002 moved my practice to an entrepreneurial predecessor firm of Richardson GMP. In 2008 I earned my Portfolio Manager designation, which allows me to perform discretionary portfolio management over client accounts. In 2009, I merged my practice with Alan Young to further dedicate my time to sourcing and monitoring the best investments I can find for clients. Always a student of the markets, I spend many hours every week studying world economics, evaluating existing client investments, and searching for new and better investment ideas.
Residing in North Vancouver with my wife and two daughters, I spend my spare time skiing, biking and hiking — all with the same excitement I bring to pursuing our clients’ financial goals.
I am extremely proud of the Investment Practice Alan and I have built — I invite you to sit down with us to review your personal financial situation and compare it with your own life objectives.

Alan Young, BA, Math., Portfolio Manager
I found my dream career, and for that I know I am fortunate. Since 1998, I have enjoyed setting financial goals for my clients and finding ways to reach them.
My father, a retired Chartered Accountant (the financial advisor of his day) helped families and small businesses during his career. He provided me with a conservative nature, and the ability to have a caring ear when providing financial advice. This outlook forms the foundation for the advisory practice I have built over 16+ years. Receiving my Personal Financial Planner designation in 2001, I immediately began building an advice-based, wealth management approach to investing.
For several years afterwards, l strived on my own to find investments that could truly meet client needs. This led me to the early realization that seeking absolute return rather than buying and holding equities in the volatile stock market was a better way to succeed. Thankfully, James Rogers felt the same way, which led us to form a partnership in 2009. This key step truly enabled me to focus my time on what I love most, meeting with clients to discover their unique financial goals, and matching those goals with the right investments for them. I have the highest confidence that the Team I helped to form can provide truly innovative and exceptional advice to families, corporations and endowments.
The other important team in my life is at home with my family. I love coaching my three kids’ soccer teams and teaching them some of my other passions, including skiing, golf and travel.
